Honestly, traveling to North Cotabato is still scary to me. Forgive me, but I’m totally afraid of the previous news that was happening there and that includes insurgency, kidnapping and bombing. I have been to Pigcawayan, North Cotabato a couple of times and to tell you frankly that I admired the simple setting when I see the wide rice fields along the way. It is like a peaceful place for me, but behind that serenity is where the fear lies. Cotabato is a known place for Muslims. This is also the place where you hear fellow Muslims fight with each other and get killed. Maguindanao massacre was the most tragic ever happened in the Philippines history along with what is happening now in Zamboanga where civilians are always at risk and Muslim rebels head the group again. I guess it is the reason that North Cotabato and their neighboring places are behind progress because of security problems. There is no doubt that this part of Mindanao is creating a bad image of our country. When will this end? It’s been too long that they are doing this and it is not impressive at all. Living there is limited because you are not allowed to go out in the night and so all. If we visit our brother there we are advised to leave the place early for our safety since travelling by night or after sunset is not safe.
With that kind of situation I feel sorry to those people who only wanted a peaceful life. I feel sorry for my brother’s family that they are left there to accept the situation since both of them work there. I’m just grateful that we arrived home safe yesterday and I am praying that this problem in Cotabato will end soon.
